We all remember high school lunches. Remember the mystery meat? At first, we were all afraid to try it, then some brave souls did. They either found it to be great or terrible, but either way, we got over our fear of mystery meat.
Perhaps we jumped the gun.
Do you really know what is in the meat you eat? Do you really know? Perhaps, if you only purchase free-range meats, you can answer this question. However, if you eat whatever meat is put in front of you, there is a wake-up call in store.
Did you know that pigs who are used for meat sometimes never see the light of day, except when they are on the truck to the slaughterhouse? That most are lame? That their diet consists of ground corn stalks, medecines to keep them alive, and sometimes candy and other pigs? Seriously. Did you know that veal calves are fed cow blood? Chickens are kept 4-6 per pen, and none of them can spread their wings? Most sheep, pigs, and cows are not dead when their throats are slit. This causes a slow, painful death.
Really makes you think about where your burger was before it was on the fryer…
